Ontario Hospitals Meet New Standard with mTuitive’s xPert for Pathology

Boston, MA - mTuitive is proud to announce that three of their customers have received validation for meeting the 2008-2009 CAP/CS aligned data standards for pathology reporting.North York General Hospital, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center and The Scarborough Hospital have implemented mTuitive's xPert for Pathology and, as a result, are successfully transmitting discrete synoptic data to Ontario's cancer registry. Hospitals that are validated are eligible for funding to offset the costs of implementing a certified synoptic reporting solution like xPert for Pathology.

This is a first of its kind initiative. The goal is to implement province-wide quality standards for cancer-related pathology reporting, which would facilitate improved patient outcomes and a better clinical quality of care. This is important because pathology reports are generally widely disseminated to the clinical care team and the information contained within these reports guides decisions around subsequent treatment. Standardized pathology reporting increases the availability and consistency of cancer pathology information that is essential for treatment decisions, evaluation, and research.

mTuitive complies with the 2008-2009 CAP/CS aligned data standards developed in conjunction with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Cancer Committee, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Joint Committee on Cancer. The CAP checklists¹ for breast, lung, colorectal, prostate and endometrium were amended to include the mandatory pathological collaborative staging elements.

xPert for Pathology interfaces with all available Laboratory Information Systems on the market which lends itself to wide use throughout the province.
